And some news (big news)

Legal for Designers
a Workshop at XXXI

Freelancers, business-owners, and in-house designers: Now’s your chance to learn what all that stuff in your MSA means! Hannah Samendinger is an independent attorney, specializing in contract and intellectual property law for creatives and entrepreneurs. She’s coming to XXXI for the first of what we hope will be a series of legal forums for designers, to explore the topics of intellectual property, contracts, and legal entities, and answer your questions about what the heck all this means.

The course will cover (a) the basic principles of these areas, (b) the benefits to understanding them and protecting your rights, (c) how a designer may interact with each area, (d) specific considerations for designers in each area, and (e) helpful resources. The course will also focus on questions brought by the attendees.

— Thursday 3/12
— 7p – 9p
— Unlike our skills courses, Legal is not a weekly-occurring class, though we hope to host monthly sessions to explore different areas where the business of design intersects with the law.
— Limited to 20 attendees
— Design by Nicholas Samendinger

See that picture just above the headline? That’s our studio when Jacob and Jake first signed the lease in 2015.

XXXI is moving in with our old pals Sanctuary Computer this spring. Well, not in, per say — we're getting a spankin’ new home together! We’re not totally sure where, yet, but we’ll keep you posted. While we’re sad to leave our home on 9th St., we’re really excited about our new studiomates, and building a new studio together (one with fewer cockroaches).

In our new space, we’ll be able to run more workshops, build out a new store, and host more events, gatherings, salons, parties, exhibitions and generally do everything else we’ve always done, but better.
