Lush

Now we begin the work

As a campaigning company, we work closely work with grassroots organizations and leaders campaigning for change, many whom have helped us to understand the impacts of racism on communities of color. The killing of George Floyd, and so many before, has opened veins of hurt and rage, and shone a light on the centuries of injustice faced by the Black community in America and beyond. Last Friday, we said enough. Staying silent is no longer an option. We called for an end to violence and killings, racial profiling, mass incarceration, impunity, racism and suffering.

And yet we know that words alone are not enough. Since Memorial Day we’ve all seen tensions rise, we’ve seen peaceful protests and rage fill the streets and, in some cases, we’ve also seen destruction and chaos spilling into neighborhoods. As this all unfolds we are focused on two things: the safety and protection of our staff, and the steps that we need to take as an ethical business to play an active role internally and externally to challenge and address police brutality and systemic racism in our communities. Some of you have asked, ‘What is Lush really doing?’, and we know that while we don’t have all the answers right now, we addressed some next steps in our communication to staff this week. We’re ready to do the work and the details of that work will be shared soon.

As we closely follow both Covid-19 and now the ongoing protests, we have made the decision to close some of our shops in impacted areas and to hold off on our reopening plans at a few others. We hope it won’t be long before we feel it’s safe and secure for us to open all of our doors to our loyal fans, but we will need to take this day by day. We appreciate your patience and understanding and please check your local shop’s Facebook pages for the most up-to-date information.

We stand in solidarity with our Black staff, customers and community and are eager to continue the conversations to end police brutality and racism in America. The work ahead is ambitious and it's going to take all of us. We are ready and can't do it without you.
